After completion of his medical internship, he completed his MD degree in 1968 at the School of Medicine of the Paris University and obtained his certification in Hematology in 1970. He received his first nomination as Senior Lecturer in 1970 and became in 1974 Assistant Professor at Hopital Lariboisière (Prof. J. Caen). In 1979 he move to Mulhouse as Head of the Hematology Department and has been the founder and the Director of the “Institut de Recherche en Hématologie et Transplantation (IRHT) since 1987. His group was a pioneer in the field of peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) and realized the 6th worldwide PBSC graft in 1986. Since 2000 he is Professor and Director of the Educational Program on Hematopoiesis and Cellular Therapy at the University of Haute Alsace, Mulhouse, France. He is member of twelve national and international scientific and corresponding member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He was contributing to peer reviewwd journal editorial boards like Bone Marrow, Stem cells or the Journal of Hematotherapy and, European Editor for the Journal of Hematotherapy and Stem Cell Research . Since 1990, he has actively participated to scientific committees in International Meetings including 4 ISEH meetings. In July 2000 he was the laureate of the “Excellence Achievements Awards of the Millennium” in the field of Hematopoiesis. He had published more than 150 articles or book chapters focused on PBSC transplant and stem cells.

Following his formation at the CNAM he completed an Executive MBA (CPA, Lyon) in 1988. In 1969 he joined Ecco and then Adecco in various positions of increasing responsibility over more than 30 years to become its Regional Director for Alsace, Lorraine, Franche-Comté. In 1972 as Associated Director he was in charge of Addecco Germany and some affiliated companies in the same territory.

 

In 1988 he was co-founder and administrator for more than 15 years of IEN (Initiatives et Entreprises Nouvelles) located in Etupes (Franche Comté, France), this new structure was one of the first biotech incubator in France. In 1994, he has been nominated as Advisor to the Chairman of Potassic Mines (Mulhouse, France) for the reorganization of the Alsacian Potassique region.

 

In 1998 he co-founded “Cardinal Development” a capital development company in Alsace. He joined the IRHT board in 1999 and became its Chairman from 2001 till 2009.
