For a long time Marie Reine will remember December 2, 2002. The diagnosis was without any doubt: severe myocardial infarct with irreversible damages requiring a cardiac transplant. In the meantime a therapeutic decision will be essential as her life expectancy was considered quite short. Being hospitalized in the cardiology department, she meet Dr. Hénon who proposed her the grafting of autologous stem cells which has been recently experimentally set up. She accepted to enter into the clinical program with the sampling of her blood stem cells and the injection of the grafted cells directly into the cardiac lesion during the coronary bypass surgery required by her severe condition.
Marie Reine, 55 years.
